Marion Stanton PGCE Dip. Ed. (Special)
Director, Marion Stanton, is the Author of the Cerebral Palsy Handbook which is recommended by SCOPE, and is active in the disability rights movement as a parent and ally. She also lectures in Facilitating Communication at Bolton University and is a former assessor for the Communication Aid Project (CAP).
Marion is a special needs teacher trainer, lecturer in AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) and in FCT (Facilitated Communication Training).
She qualified as a special needs teacher in 1991 having previously worked in Occupational Therapy, nursing, youth work and housing.
Marion has studied the following:
- Language and Communication impairment in children with Anne Locke (Speech and Language Therapist at Sheffield University).
- Teaching and assessment for pupils who have Specific Learning Difficulties with the Hornsby Centre.
- PEC’s (Picture Exchange Communication) with Pyramid Education.
- AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) with the ACE Centre.
- Teaching Literacy to children with severe learning difficulties (with Karen Erikson from the University of North Carolina)
- FCT (Facilitated Communication Training) With Dr. Rosemary Crossley at the DEAL Communication Centre, Melbourne Australia.
- BSL (stage 1)
- Disabilty Equality Training with Disability Equality in Education.
- Conductive Education with the Hornsey Centre.
She has delivered seminars and workshops at many local, national and international venues.
Marion is a firm supporter of educational and community inclusion and works with schools and LEA’s to help them to include individual students who experience barriers to learning and communicating.
Krys Campbell
Welcome to new teacher Krys who will be handling our London teaching contracts.
Until recently Krys Campbell was teaching full-time in a North London Comprehensive school.
She studied Maths at Redland College of Education and started her teaching career in Bristol, teaching pupils of Primary school age. She then moved to London where she has mainly taught Maths, Work Skills, and Adult Numeracy. She was Head of Year before taking up the post of DESCO
(Designated co-ordinator for pupils with physical disabilities).
Krys has worked closely with Marion Stanton for the past 7 years and enjoys the challenge of learning how to use and keep abreast of the latest technology that is able to empower pupils with physical disabilities.
She initiated and more recently chaired DESCO Forums within the local authority whereby the local schools met regularly to discuss and share ideas and resources pertaining to their Resource Bases.
For the past year she has been learning Makaton and has enrolled on a BSL (British Sign Language)course.
She enjoys swimming and playing tennis and is a keen skier. She lives in London with her husband and 2 teenage sons.
Jackie Dearden
Associate Consultant, Dr.Jackie Dearden BSc. Psychology, MSc. Educational Psychology, PGCE, Doctor of Applied Psychology (Educational) at Nottingham University
Jackie is a senior educational psychologist with Nottingham City Community Educational Psychology Service. She has a strong interest in enhancing communication for all pupils, especially those with severe communication impairments. She has recently completed a research project on how to introduce alternative and augmentative communication strategies including facilitated communication training as a normally available resource in Nottingham City. This was part of a sucessful doctoral research project and was supported by Nottingham University and service managers within the local LEA.

Alan Martin
Associate Consultant, Alan Martin was born in Liverpool in ’63. Until the age of 31 he had very little help with communication, and felt misunderstood and undervalued. When Alan was 31, friends fundraised to buy his first communication aid.
Alan is now a dance workshop leader, performer and disability issues presenter. His work is now in great demand, as the only AAC using dance leader in the country.
Alan’s effect as a positive role model to young disabled people especially communication aid users is greatly valued.
A campaigner for full social inclusion and the rights of disabled people to be treated with respect and in an equal way, this theme underpins all his work.

Tracy Morvinson
We are very pleased to have Tracy on board as one of our trainers. Tracy works at Hope School as their Communication Co-ordinator. She is also the Outreach Co-ordinator for children with physical disabilities for Wigan LEA.
Gillian Hazell
Associate Consultant, Gillian Hazell, Independent Speech and Langauge therapist. We are delighted to have Gillians extensive knowledge available to support our training courses.
Liz Wilson
It is great to welcome Liz in 2008 as our Inclusion and Person Centred Planning Trainer. Liz works for a parent led organisation in Yorkshire and has a freelance Inclusion and person centred planning trainer, consultant and facilitator.
Katie Caryer

We are pleased to welcome Katie Caryer as a member of our training team in 2008. Katie is an AAC user and has recently finished University. She is starting out on a varied career mixing drama with disability issues. She occasionally writes for Disability Now after having her own column and is a campaigner for inclusion and the rights of AAC users.
