Based around individual student needs we will visit and assess the student and train their support team in the relevant Motor Planning Training (MPT) and AAC needs. Includes four days training, implementation of programme for individual, setting up record keeping systems and a follow on, one day monitoring visit.

Half a day for a MAP, PATH or setting up a Circle of Support, including follow up support.

We will arrange any necessary equipment loans with the relevant suppliers free of charge, but some suppliers may make a small charge.

NB. Travel and accommodation costs may be incurred depending on distance from CandLE.
CANCELLATION POLICY
There will be no charge for cancellations made more than 21 days before a booked date. Cancellations made between 20 days and 8 days beforehand will be charged at 50% of the booked rate. Cancellations made 7 or less days beforehand will be charged at 100% of the booked rate

Developed in conjunction with the Bolton University BA in Education programme in Facilitating Communication this course covers:
- Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)
- Neuro – motor problems and strategies for dealing with them
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Adaptations to the curriculum in special and mainstream environments
- Total Communication
- Motor Planning Training.
- Human rights issues in relation to communication, social and educational inclusion

This course offers opportunities to a wide range of people who use AAC and/or FCT either in their professional or personal life. It can open the way to a number of career progression opportunities or be used to enhance knowledge within your work or home setting. It is possible to gain accreditation beyond the certificate of attendance with further extension (this will incur extra costs to cover university registration, tutorials and marking etc.)
Specific techniques introduced will include: Switch use, head pointing, eye pointing and finger pointing using software such as Widgit and GRID2 as well as communication aids such as Dynavox products, and low tech solutions for when the technology breaks down or doesn’t suit the situation.

About The Trainers
Marion Stanton is a Special Needs Teacher Trainer and Assessor. She originally developed the course in conjunction with Dr. Rosemary Crossley who is credited as being the originator of the use of FCT. This course is also supported by Jackie Dearden, senior educational psychologist, Nottingham City and Alan Martin, Disability Equality Trainer and Dance workshop leader, Tracy Morvinson, Communication Co-ordinator at Hope Special School, Wigan, Liz Wilson, Inclusion and person centred planning trainer, consultant and facilitator and Gillian Hazel, Speech and Language Therapist.
