FUNDING FOR COMMUNICATION AIDS
Since the end of the CAP project many school pupils in England have lost the opportunity to gain access to the equipment they need for communication and learning. However, the CAP project never supported adults with the same needs and did not help pupils in Scotland and Wales so it was only ever a partial service. The aim of CAP was to complement rather than replace services but the project did highlight the desperate need for communication aid and other equipment that is going unmet throughout the UK.
Currently the only routes we have been able to fathom out that you may get access to provision are via your local education service (if you are a pupil with special educational needs) or through ICES.
A new Group has formed known as "New Communications" See the notification of their first conference at the bottom of this page.
Watch this space for more information about obtaining funding from your local education authority. We are researching this and will upload to the website soon.

There are many charities that may be able to assist you financially towards the cost of your Communication Aid. Below is a list of just some of these organisations. There are many more Charities able to help so it is worth searching locally. Most charities would require a referral from your Speech and Language Therapist, A Doctor or Social Worker in order to consider any application made to them.

The Nihal Armstrong Trust

This is a small charity set up in memory of Nihal Armstrong, who died aged 17, on the eve of his GCSE exams. Nihal had cerebral palsy. They provide children with essential pieces of equipment, communication aids or specific services that their local authority does not provide.
