Candle Director, Marion Stanton, lectures on two courses on the Professional Development in Education BA at Bolton University:
FACILITATING COMMUNICATION
This 2nd level degree course has the same content as the "Communication for All" course but also offers the opportunity to gain 20 CAT points towards a degree.
FACILITATED COMMUNCIATION TRAINING
This 3rd level degree course offers participants the opportunity to gain 20 CAT points towards a degree. Pre-requisites for the course include:
- Successful completion of the 2nd level Faciliating Communication course or a course of a similar nature.
- Working regularly with at least 3 pupils who have communication difficulties and whose access methods include:
- one who is using FCT to type with a programme considering fading support.
- one who is using access approaches other than FCT.
- one who is using access approaches other than at the hand.
The final decision regarding admission to the course will be decided by interview.

- AAC assessment
- Tools for those who could use High and Low Tech options
- Training styles
- Training audiences (practical)
- Training others to practice AAC and FCT
- Developing Ladder activities
- Setting up AAC and FCT programmes
- Selection sets and vocabularies in depth
- Adapting the curriculum in depth
- Practical assessment assignment
- Maintaining and monitoring AAC and FCT programmes
