About Dan Stanton
Dan is 20 now and well established in his own home. At the bottom of this page you can see pictures from the PATH meeting that Liz Wilson facilitated for Dan in February 2008.
Here are some picci's from Dan's 18th birthday party.
Below his sister Katie is giving him a present.
Dan was the inspiration for my only published work (so far anyway); "The Cerebral Palsy Handbook" recommended by SCOPE follow this link to find out more:
I wrote the book when he was two years old so I had to get to know a lot more people who had CP in order to write a general guide for families. This in turn inspired me to get into special needs teaching so thanks Dan for all the things you taught me.
Before anything else we always wanted Dan's life to be as enjoyable as anyone elses and for him to have access to the things that any other young person enjoys. Here Dan is enjoying the swings in our local park in North London when he was 3 years old.
We always wanted mainstream school for Dan and, despite a battle or two on the way, he has managed to stay in mainstream throughout until he left at 16 years old. Special thanks goes to Acland Burghley school in Camden where he spent a successful years 7 and 8. Acland Burghley were never afraid to make sure Dan's experience at school was as good as anyone else's as you can see from the school outing below when he was 12 years old:
and with his TA Janice and teacher Hamish on another outing below when he was 13 years old:
We would also like to acknowledge Pakeman Primary school in Islington who worked so hard to include Dan throughout his primary years.
Dan wrote some great poetry when he was at AclandBurghleySchool. Here is one of his poems:
Below his class teacher Finola is supporting him in year 1 when he was 6 years old.
Sad to say 6th form college was not such a positive experience. He was turned down and too late to apply for anything else after they had made him take a test without making reasonable adjustments. His legal battle in that regard is ongoing.
Confirmation was one of Dan's many dreams realised in 2004 and shared with his sister and the Bishop of Pontefract below:

He is currently enjoying an independent life style with Direct Payments, his own adapted vehicle and the support of great personal assistants:
Dan has moved house!
We are pleased to announce that Dan is now living independently in his own flat with a team of personal assistants paid through Direct Payments. Here are some photos:
Dan gets the keys to his flat from Pennine Housing Officer Sue.
Settled in.
